Weatherization serves to conserve energy and reduce utility bills for the homes of people with limited incomes up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. The materials and labor are free to qualifying families and the work is performed in accordance with priorities mandated by the US Department of Energy. Priorities are given for the elderly, disabled, and for faimilies with children under 18 years of age.
Weatherization Goals:
-
Reduce heating and cooling costs by improving the energy efficiency of homes while ensuring the health and safety of families in Braxton, Lewis, Upshur, and Webster Counties
-
Crews perform energy conservation measures on the homes
Weatherization DOES NOT do roof repair/replacement, build wheelchair ramps, or do any construction work other than as it applies to energy efficiency.
The Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) allows Mountain CAP to provide heat for no-heat emergency households from November 1 through March 15.
